From December 7 to 9, 2024, led by Dean Cao Ruonan, our faculty team visited the Social Sciences Academic Press (China). During the visit, we engaged in in-depth discussions with the heads and relevant editors of the presss regional and international branches on topics such as the translation and publication of high-level books, the publication of high-quality textbooks, and the development of high-level academic journals.

During the exchange with Zhang Xiaoli, the head of the Area Branch of the Social Sciences Academic Press, and Li Mingwei, Digital Editor, Dean Cao Ruonan first expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception and provided a brief overview of the Schools progress and achievements in translating books related to area studies. The discussion then turned to key topics, including book selection, copyright confirmation, and the status of translation projects. Zhang Xiaoli, drawing on specific cases, detailed the potential copyright challenges during the translation process and underscored the importance of teamwork. She also highly praised our school’s proactive approach to translation and publication. Looking ahead, President Zhang expressed a strong desire to strengthen future collaboration with our school in order to jointly promote the publication and dissemination of high-quality academic works. Exchange with Li Yanling, Director of the International Publishing Division, and Editors of Various Languages at Social Sciences Academic Press

This research summarized the progress and challenges our school has made in academic translation and foreign translation projects, and clarified the key points and directions for future improvement. Both sides concurred that by strengthening collaboration, streamlining the translation and publishing processes, and increasing the output of Chinese academic works in foreign languages, we can more effectively support the academic development and societal needs of area studies. This study not only deepens the communication and cooperation between our school and the Social Sciences Academic Press, but also provides strong support for the international dissemination of our academic achievements and the development of our school’s disciplines.
