Professor Wei Ling, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Northwest University, Lectures at Our School

On the afternoon of December 11, 2024, Professor Wei Ling, Director of the Administrative Centre for Journals of the Northwest University and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Northwest University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition), was invited to give an academic lecture titled “How Academic Journals Promote Interdisciplinary Integration” to the faculty and students of the School of Foreign Languages. The lecture was hosted by Professor Cao Ruonan, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and attended by more than 100 faculty members and students.

At the start of the lecture, Professor Wei Ling provided a comprehensive overview of the development and academic impact of the Journal of Northwest University, highlighting its significant role in promoting academic exchange and supporting the advancement of various disciplines. She outlined three key levels of topic selection and planning: first, aligning with the overarching priorities of the Party and the country; second, contributing to regional economic and social development; and third, leveraging the university's strengths in specific academic fields. Professor Wei emphasized the critical importance of topic selection and planning in academic research, underscoring that interdisciplinary research is a key driver of academic innovation. She also shared several successful examples of interdisciplinary research, offering valuable practical insights for both faculty and students. To enhance academic foundations and research capabilities, Professor Wei encouraged the audience to foster an exploratory mindset and continually raise their academic standards. She also provided submission guidelines for the Journal of Northwest University, emphasizing the need for innovative topics, high-quality writing, and adherence to academic standards, while advising against submitting papers on sensitive subjects. Furthermore, Professor Wei discussed the journal’s experience with digital dissemination, highlighting the use of platforms like WeChat official accounts and other multimedia channels to promote academic achievements. She noted that digital communication not only extends the journal’s academic reach but also offers researchers more platforms to share their work. During the interactive session, faculty and students actively participated, engaging in dynamic discussions on interdisciplinary research, submission strategies, and other related topics. Professor Wei patiently addressed their questions and offered tailored advice.

This lecture not only expanded the faculty and students’ understanding of academic journals and interdisciplinary research, but also offered practical guidance for the selection and publication of high-quality academic topics in the future. The School of Foreign Languages will seize this opportunity to enhance academic exchanges and collaboration with the journal, injecting new energy into the interdisciplinary research that bridges foreign language studies with regional and national studies.
