On the evening of April 10, 2024, Professor Shen Shen from the Shaanxi Archaeological Research Institute (Shaanxi Archaeological Museum) visited our school and delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Empowering Foreign Languages in Museum Education: Approaches and Practical Exploration”. The lecture took place in the Second Classroom Auditorium of the School of Foreign Languages, Northwest University, and was hosted by Associate Professor He Hua. All students from the 2023 MTI program attended the lecture and participated in the discussion.
Professor Shen began by sharing her educational journey that spans both foreign languages and museum studies. She then discussed her extensive experience in public archaeology and children’s museum education, and highlighted the positioning of foreign language professionals, the challenges faced in museum education, and the analysis of typical cases from her own practice. Professor Shen emphasized the importance and potential of transitioning from individual “cases” to a broader “model” of education, encouraging students to “ride the current and stay informed on current affairs,” and to leverage their academic strengths to explore new career opportunities. During the Q&A session, Professor Shen answered students’ questions in a thorough and detailed manner, and offered specific advice. This lecture provided new ideas, directions, and opportunities for the MTI students’ internships, as well as their future careers.
