Our school discussed university-industry cooperation with GTCOM

On April 19, 2024, Global Tone Communication Technology (GTCOM) Co., Ltd. visited the School of Foreign Languages at Northwest University to engage in discussions on university-industry cooperation. The meeting was attended by Cao Ruonan, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Yang Ying, Associate Dean for Administration, He Hua, Director of the MTI Education Center, Associate Professor Chen Hanliang from the MTI Education Center. In addition, Ren Fei, Director of the Innovation and Application Division, Ji Zilong, Director of the Data Operations Department, and Chen Dong, Director of the Language Services Division from GTCOM (Shanxi) Technology Co., Ltd also attended this meeting.

GTCOM (Shanxi) Technology Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between GTCOM Technology Inc. and the Xi’an Xixian New Area Qinhan New City Development and Construction Group. The company is a key operator of language services and big data platforms for the Belt and Road Initiative in Shaanxi Province. Founded in 2017, GTCOM (Shanxi) Technology Co., Ltd has established partnerships with several prestigious universities, including Tianjin University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwest A&F University, Xi’an International Studies University, and Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology.

During the meeting, Director Ren Fei introduced the company’s background, core capabilities, and key products. He highlighted that the company, as a global leader in artificial intelligence, possesses core technologies such as human-computer interaction, knowledge graphs and language intelligence. In recent years, the company has made significant progress in various fields such as international communication, translation services, and regional and country-specific research, in alignment with national strategic goals.

Director Ji Zilong provided a demonstration and analysis of typical cases using the company’s internal artificial intelligence platform and introduced related technologies for regional and country-specific research. He expressed the hope for further communication and collaboration between the two parties, focusing on key projects, research directions and talent development, with the aim to achieve long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation.

Dean Cao Ruonan welcomed the GTCOM team on behalf of the school and provided an overview of the school’s history, its focus on regional and country studies, talent development, and current trends. Dean Cao expressed the hope that the school and GTCOM could complement each other’s strengths and collaborate more deeply by leveraging their respective resources. She also emphasized the importance of establishing professional project teams to facilitate closer and more sustained cooperation.

Following the meeting, participants engaged in a thorough discussion on potential collaboration in the areas of country-specific research, cooperation methods and directions. A preliminary cooperation agreement was reached, and both sides agreed to work together on joint talent training, project proposals, interdisciplinary research, and the establishment of practical training bases. This collaboration aims to enhance student internships, support talent cultivation, and promote the deeper development of regional and country-specific studies.
