To enhance international communication, share stories of international friends in China like Edgar Snow, and promote grassroots exchanges between China and the United States, the Sino-American documentary Snow, The Road Not Taken began filming in May 2024. This project is guided by the Shaanxi Provincial Radio and Television Bureau and the Shaanxi People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, in collaboration with the Helen Foster Snow Foundation, the Edgar Snow Memorial Foundation, and the Shaanxi Snow Research Center. The documentary was filmed in places such as Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, Yan’an and Baoji.

The documentary, set against the backdrop of Edgar Snow and Helen Foster Snow's “Journey to the West” in the 1930s, during which they explored the profound changes in Chinese society, retraces the Snows’ footsteps through the perspective of Adam Foster, the President of the Helen Foster Snow Foundation in the United States. It presents a series of moving details and stories of cultural exchanges based on the “Snow Spirit” between the people of China and the United States since the new century, as well as the promotion of friendly interactions between the two peoples.

In the afternoon of May 13, 2024, Adam Foster, the President of the Helen Foster Snow Foundation in the United States, and his film crew visited our institute for filming. They toured the offices of the Shaanxi Edgar Snow Research Center, the Edgar Snow Reading Room, the Helen Snow Special Exhibition, and the Monument of Sino-American Friendship. And finally, they successfully completed the shooting schedule.

Participants included Hu Zongfeng, director of the Shaanxi Snow Research Center; Wang Jun, our school’s party secretary; and teacher and student representatives who assisted with the reception and filming. Together with Adam and staff from the provincial radio and television bureau, they laid flowers at the China-U.S. Friendship Monument.

Seven members of our RED Memory Interpretation Team provided volunteer services. The team leader introduced their proposed Internet+ project to Adam Foster, who praised their efforts and expressed hope that they could share Helen Snow’s story with a wider audience.

Previously, Adam Foster visited our school in 2016, 2018, and 2023, participating in international seminars and events that commended our contributions to Snow research.

The documentary Snow: The Unfinished Journey is a major cultural project of Shaanxi Province and a key initiative in the national 14th Five-Year Plan for documentary production. It will be produced by Shaanxi Tourism Group Film and Television Culture Co., Ltd. and Yilu Sunshine Film Company, with post-production expected to be completed by the end of this year. It is slated for broadcast on China Central Television, American Eagle Dragon Media, and other platforms, as well as screenings in major Chinese cities and locations in the U.S., including Los Angeles, Kansas, Salt Lake City, and Provo.
