On May 29, 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00, a special lecture titled “Revolutionary Thinking for Translation Majors in the AI Era” was held at the Second Classroom Lecture Hall of the School of Foreign Languages, Northwest University. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Zhao Qi, the founder and senior engineer of Shaanxi Ruiheng Asset Appraisal Co., Ltd. It was hosted by associate professor He Hua from the School of Foreign Languages, Northwest University, and attended by all professional master’s degree students of the 2023 intake.

During the lecture, Ms. Zhao Qi emphasized that as the AI era approaches, translation majors should not cling to old methods but instead adopt revolutionary thinking, deeply integrate with AI technology, reconstruct cross-cultural communication abilities, actively engage in multi-domain industry collaborations, and extend the value of their profession. Ms. Zhao also used book-reading and exercise as examples to discuss how to cultivate good habits and resilient willpower, break down industry barriers, and broaden innovative horizons, so as to access a broader range of knowledge and information. And she also encouraged students to focus on the future and actively respond to the challenges and opportunities of the new era. Ms. Zhao further stated that English majors should acquire relevant skills according to market demands, and transform themselves into composite talents with “foreign language + professional” expertise to provide better language services to society. During the subsequent Q&A session, Ms. Zhao patiently answered students’ questions in detail. For future endeavors, Ms. Zhao pledged to seek more opportunities to foster stronger ties between translation studies and industry sectors.
