At 2:00 p.m. on December 30, Vice President Cao Rong of Northwestern University, Director of the Social Science Division Han Zhibin, and Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office Li Hui visited our school for a research study. The meeting was attended by Zhao Zhihou, the secretary of the school's Party Committee, Dean Cao Ruonan, Associate Dean of Teaching Li Ming, and Associate Dean of Research Su Rui. The meeting was chaired by Party Secretary Zhao Zhihou.
Dean Cao Ruonan first reported on the school's implementation of the “Several Measures for Improving Quality and Efficiency of National-Level Projects and Major Achievements at Northwestern University.” She mentioned that the school is intensifying efforts to promote organized research, actively building diversified research teams, fully utilizing the mentoring role of senior, middle-aged, and young researchers, and implementing a discipline leader system,focusing on overcoming research weaknesses, and concentrating resources to tackle difficult problems. In addition, the school is refining the development direction of disciplines, promoting mutual assistance between teaching and research, and strengthening the pre-application management process for national-level projects to boost the overall improvement of research level.
Next, Associate Dean Li Ming provided a report on the related rectification work for the undergraduate education teaching review and pre-evaluation. She detailed the progress made and future plans in areas such as the inspection and digitization of teaching archives, improvement of classroom teaching quality, enhancement of the teaching management system, revision of self-assessment reports, and creation of the school’s unique PowerPoint presentations. She emphasized that the school would adhere to the policy of “promoting construction and reform through evaluation,” striving for excellence and continuous improvement.
After listening to the report, the three leaders provided responses from different perspectives.
Han Zhibin gave an in-depth analysis of the school's current research situation. He affirmed the achievements in research project applications and outcome production, while also pointing out existing issues. He strongly supported the mentoring collaboration model proposed by Dean Cao Ruonan, emphasizing the importance of strengthening research team construction and suggesting the school further broaden its cooperation channels and tap into its research potential.
Li Hui offered rectification suggestions from various angles of the review and evaluation process. He pointed out that the school should align itself with the review and evaluation indicators system, analyze its strengths and weaknesses, continue to improve the self-assessment report and the unique PowerPoint presentations, standardize and digitize teaching archives, and actively mobilize all faculty and students to deeply learn the knowledge related to review and evaluation. This would help enhance morale, strengthen internal development, and continuously improve the talent cultivation system.
Finally, President Cao summarized the issues related to both teaching and research, setting clear expectations and requirements for the school. She emphasized that the school should continue to deepen educational reform, continuously improve classroom teaching quality, and based on her own evaluation experience, she proposed specific suggestions and strategies. She encouraged the school to accelerate the pace of building new liberal arts, strive to create high-quality courses, strengthen the development of high-level teaching materials and educational research, so as to have greater achievements in the future.
