On the afternoon of March 18, 2025, a delegation led by Chen Wu, Associate Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Xi’an Shiyou University, visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL), Northwest University, for a research and academic exchange. The two schools engaged in in-depth discussions on discipline development, program enhancement, curriculum reform, and faculty capacity-building, sharing their respective experiences and practices.
Dean Cao Ruonan extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of SFL’s profile. She highlighted the school’s discipline structure, faculty development initiatives, and achievements in teaching and research. Emphasizing SFL’s strategic focus on Country and Region Studies during its transformative development phase, she underscored efforts to drive innovation through interdisciplinary integration, aiming to elevate academic impact and talent cultivation quality.

During the subsequent exchange sessions, Mei Zilin, Deputy Director of SFL’s Russian Department, elaborated on the department’s elite small-class teaching model. He explained how innovative pedagogical methods, guided by Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Programs, cultivate students’ academic rigor and interdisciplinary competencies to prepare them for future careers. Li Ming, SFL’s Associate Dean of Teaching, shared insights into undergraduate and graduate-level practical training and internship programs. She detailed how tailored experiential activities enhance students’ practical skills and holistic development, bridging theory and practice. From the visiting delegation, Li Xuemei, Director of the College English Teaching Division at Xi’an Shiyou University, presented their institution’s experience in deploying an online teaching platform for college English courses, showcasing its role in advancing teaching innovation. Zhang Yan, Director of the Russian Department, discussed their unique approaches to Country and Region Studies, aligned with the university’s long-term strategic goals. The dialogue concluded with robust discussions on research evaluation mechanisms, revisions to talent cultivation frameworks, and the “localization” of Country and Region Studies.
This exchange established a valuable platform for academic interaction between the two schools, deepening mutual understanding and laying a foundation for future collaboration in discipline development, talent cultivation, and educational innovation.
