To deepen the school’s internationalization efforts and enhance the quality of teaching by international faculty, the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) organized a new term meeting for its international faculty on the afternoon of March 19. Key attendees included members of the school’s leadership, heads of academic departments, and international faculty from the English, Japanese, and Russian programs. Discussions focused on teaching evaluations, academic research, and social service initiatives for the new semester.

Secretary Zhao Zhihou outlined the deployment of the semester’s undergraduate education evaluation work, acknowledging the pivotal role of international faculty in advancing the school’s global talent cultivation. He emphasized the need for continuous improvement in curriculum development, classroom management, and student engagement to set exemplary standards. Li Min, Associate Dean of Teaching, clarified evaluation timelines and requirements, urging international faculty to actively collaborate in maintaining teaching quality, ensuring disciplined classroom practices, and timely submission of teaching materials to strengthen SFL’s teaching quality assurance framework.

Dean Cao Ruonan framed the school’s strategic priorities across three dimensions. In terms of teaching standards, strict adherence to “Work Guidelines for International Faculty” and integration of ideological and political education elements into courses are emphasized. For academic innovation, the school encourages participation in research grants and formation of joint research teams with domestic faculty. And for social engagement, the international faculty are expected to leverage their cross-cultural expertise to actively contribute to the school’s public service initiatives.

Dean Cao highlighted that international faculty are integral to SFL’s “Double First-Class” development, serving as indispensable drivers of its international competitiveness.

Finally, during the Q&A session, international faculty raised questions about teaching resource allocation and cross-cultural communication challenges. Department heads provided tailored policy clarifications and operational guidance based on disciplinary needs. This meeting clarified the work direction for the foreign faculty team, established an efficient communication platform, and will further promote the high-quality development of the school’s international education.
